Yona Yona Ale is an America pale ale brewed by a well known micro brewery in Japan “Yoho Brewing”.
Many breweries like Yoho Brewing produces various brands, but when you want to know what’s the Japanese craft beer, I would recommend Yona Yona Ale as your first choice.
The brewery started its business in 1996, and this American pale ale was first brewed and put on the market in 1997. Since the start of Japanese craft beer was 1994 after the revision of the Liquor Tax Act, this beer is literally leading the craft beer in Japan.

How Does it Taste?
Fresh and sharp aroma of hops followed by citrus like smell. It also has sharp and a little strong bitter taste and medium body. Attractive and tasty but not too characteristic. Again, Yona Yona Ale can be nice as your first experience in Japanese craft beer.
I enjoyed this beer with simmered chicken and radish which is a very standard Japanese dish with a little sweet & salty taste. The beer nicely matched with this dish.
Where to Buy?
Yoho brewing is keen about distribution of its products and you can find Yona Yona Ale at some supermarkets and convenience stores.
And, you can also buy one through online stores including their own web shop https://yonasato.com/ec/ though it’s only in Japanese, unfortunately.
