Modest but Elaborate Sake. Natsuko Monogatari

Natsuko no Sake” is a smash hit comic which was also made into a TV drama in Japan.

Kusumi Shuzou brewery in Niigata prefecture is the model of this comic, and in this article, I’d like to introduce the brand “Natsuko Monogatari” produced by this brewery.

Natsuko is a lady born into a sake brewery. She once got a job in Tokyo, but due to the decease of her brother, she returns to her home to take over her brother’s endeavor to cultivate a endangered sake rice, and to brew a best quality sake.

Natsuko Monogatari, which means “Natsuko’s Story” deserves its name since the taste is self explanatory that much time and effort is spent on it.

How Does it Taste?

It has very light aroma. Could feel a little sweet smell when you pour sake into a cup. And when you sip it you can feel very typical but mild umami of sake.

Due to this characteristics Natsuko Monogatari is good for drinking with food. I had it with dried fish. The sake didn’t interfere my tongue to enjoy the taste of the fish.
